Baptism
What is Baptism:
Baptism is a Christian ceremony for the new born for him/her to enter the house of God. There is no age limit to this ceremony but usually happens before the child can walk. This ceremony allows him/her to officiallly become a Christian, a child of God.
What happens:
At the beginnig of the ceremony, the baby and his/her parents will be welcomed into the Church and be brought to the front (Near the Altar and Font) . Then, the priest will ask what they are calling the baby and what they are asking the Church for. The parents will reply with the full name of the baby and that they want Baptism. Next, the priest will trace the Sign of the Cross over the baby's forehead. After that, he will pour the Holy Water over the baby's head at the Font. As this is happening he will say "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". Then two oil will be applied to the baby's forehead and the Godparents will be called to come up and take the Baptismal Vows. After the oils are applied, they will walk to the front and the father will pour water over the baby's head again. Next, the shawl will be wrapped around the baby to reflect we put on Christ in Baptism and the Baptismal Candle ( Which is lit by the Easter Candle) is given to the parents which represents the one true light of Christ.
